March Spring Break Art Camps

Looking for an inspiring setting to explore your artistic side this Spring Break? Back by popular demand, the Audain Art Museum will be offering a variety of half-day art camps for children ages 6 to 13. Each camp has been uniquely designed to incorporate different drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media projects, while encouraging young artists to discover and create in a fun studio environment.

Elements of Emily: March 20 – 24, 2017

Did you know that we have the largest collection of Emily Carr works on permanent display in a Canadian museum? In this camp students will investigate the seven elements of art while exploring Carr’s artistic techniques and expression. Children will hone their skills in drawing and painting, all while finding inspiration in nature.

Audain Art Safari: March 27 – 31, 2017

Whales, ravens and bears, oh my! Track the animals of beautiful British Columbia through their influences on historic and contemporary art. Using a variety of different techniques such as drawing, collage, paint and mixed media children will be introduced to new ways of looking at and approaching subject matter.

Time: 9am – 12pm: children ages 6-9 | 1 – 4pm: children ages 10-13
Cost: $125 per child | 10% discount for Members

Walk and Talk Series

Knowledgeable and friendly docents will provide visitors with an introduction to the Audain Art Museum and the treasures that are housed within its picturesque setting. Visitors will be encouraged to explore the galleries afterwards.

Tours offered on:

Wednesdays at 1pm
Thursdays and Fridays at 3pm
Saturdays and Sundays at 11am, 1pm and 3pm

Private Tours are available upon request

April Programming

Where Voyeurs and Loiterers Feel At Home; the Photographs of Fred Herzog

Date: Thursday, April 6
Time: 6:30pm reception, 7pm talk begins

Age: All ages

Cost: Free for Museum members and with general admission

Join Grant Arnold, Audain Curator of British Columbia Art at the Vancouver Art Gallery, as he explores Fred Herzog’s photographs within the broader context of 20th century street photography. As a complement to the Fred Herzog: Shadowlands exhibition currently on display, Grant will explore the way in which Herzog’s images use bodily gesture and the architecture of the street to reveal the impact of modernity on everyday life.


Kids Konnect Tours

Date: Saturday, April 15
Time: 11am | 2pm (30 minute tours)

Age: Kids and Family

Cost: Free for Museum members and with admission

Our whimsical and enlightening docents will lead families on tours of the Permanent Collection or special exhibitions that have been designed and tailored to engage children. Activities, games and movement bring the works of art to life, encouraging new ways of looking and thinking about the world around us.

Family Studio Sunday

Date: Sunday, April 16: Draw Like Matisse
Time: Drop-in from 1 – 4pm
Age: Kids and Family

Cost: Free for Museum members and with admission

Once a month volunteers, artists and facilitators welcome and guide families through hands-on, engaging art projects. Activities are geared towards children 12 & under and their families.

Many paintings, sculptures, and installations begin with the simple act of drawing. Families will explore the simple, fluid and captivating work of Henri Matisse to create their own still life drawings that utilize line, shape, form and space.

Yoga at the Audain

Date: Wednesday, April 19
Gallery: Matisse Drawings
Time: 6 – 7:15pm

Age: All Ages

Cost:  $15 + GST. This fee supports the variety of educational programs offered at the Museum.
Registration: Drop-in only. Please be aware that space is limited within the gallery, be sure to arrive early.

Nourish the soul with a yoga practice set amongst the inspiring artwork of the Audain Art Museum. Qualified yoga instructors will lead you through flowing sessions that center on the confluence of art and yoga. Each session will focus on the energy of a different gallery or artist. Classes are suitable for all levels.


Audain Exploration Cards

A variety of thoughts, questions and activities inspire the artist in us all! Designed for children and families to use on their exploration through the galleries of the Museum, the Activity Cards are available for pick-up at the Admissions Desk upon your arrival.
